Pastor Roland Nava:
Pastor Nava’s parents were heroin addicts which lead to him having a rough childhood. For example Pastor Nava himself started doing heroin at age 9 and developed extreme anger issues. At the age of 12, he dropped out of 7th grade and as a result he went in and out of prison. In 2007, he was released and had a spiritual awakening. After that, he opened up the Open Door Soup Kitchen. The main goal that we share with him is to continue to help those in need and to open up more homeless shelters. |
DeeDee:
Though Deedee did not say much, we learned plenty. Deedee graduated from South Texas Junior College, now the University of Houston. Deedee started to frequent the Open Door Soup Kitchen about a year ago. She did not explicitly state who, but she does say that someone introduced her to Pastor Nava, the Open Door Soup Kitchen Owner. She got to know him, and went to the old Soup Kitchen location on Chestnut. She very much enjoys the comfort of the Open Door Soup Kitchen and is extremely grateful for their openness and hospitality towards her and the other patrons. |

He is very grateful that the Soup Kitchen exists, as it has helped him in many ways and allowed him to meet lots of great people. |
Jimmy:
Jimmy came to Bastrop a few years ago in search for work when he ended up finding the Open Door Soup Kitchen at its old location on Chestnut. He was doing the best that he could and he said that he was fortunate and healthy. He is very grateful for the soup kitchen and the meals he is able to receive when he attends the soup kitchen. |

Jason:
Jason is from Kentucky, and when he first moved to Austin, Texas he was having quite a hard time getting situated. When he came down here he was looking for a job and the Open Door Soup Kitchen was always there for him. Jason was one of the first people who came to the soup kitchen when it was on Chestnut Street. |
